Radiolab and NPR Present Words
A stunning film from Will Hoffman and Daniel Mercadante to accompany Radiolab’s Words episode. With an original score by Keith Kenniff.
The wonderful miss Rachel Laitman (featured above as part of Februarys Acoustic Night) is recording an album and needs YOUR help. It is 88% funded at this exact moment. Head over to see more of Rachel and read about fun things to come: http://rkthb.co/7076

I got to attend my beautiful best friend Abby Hellauer (featured above blowing bubbles like a boss) ‘s graduation from my alma mater Sarah Lawrence College today. I have been fortunate enough to have attended many wonderful graduations with Abby at Sarah Lawrence. The first, with me under the tent. And the last, with her under the tent. We have seen several keynote speakers together (most notably, MY graduation speaker, Rahm Emanuel) but this year Adam Savage, co-host of the Discovery Channel television series MythBusters, spoke eloquently and profoundly, providing my favorite speech yet. (A link to the speech is attached if you click on Abby’s face).
“We are never finished products, we are all works in progress.”
I hope we always keep to that- keep improving, keep learning, keep teaching, keep making mistakes, keep growing, keep changing. As he said later in his speech, this is just the start of the second act. I just want to say I am so genuinely proud of everyone who graduated this year. I love you all dearly. I honestly didn’t think this was going to effect me as much as it did but today was likely to be the last Sarah Lawrence graduation I attend (until of course all our children go there and we attend their graduations in big embarrassing packs.) I had some of the best times of my life at Sarah Lawrence and I will always cherish that. As Ash and I (not so gracefully) left the ledge in our Schmidt room for the last time, I think I began to realize how much we really have grown in this new chapter already and how proud I am of US for the things we’ve accomplished since we graduated. I know it’ll only get better from here- and I hope all of today’s graduates feel the same way when they look back a couple of years from now. I know you will all do amazing things and I’m excited to be on this journey with all of you.
All my love (all of it),
S
I just want to go to house parties with the Front Bottoms every night. Can we make that happen, world?
More John Elliott from the last Acoustic Night in LA. This song is so awesome.
The Melodica Festival this weekend was wonderful, as expected. Dewey and the (other) Decimals closed out the festival late last night. Check out this 5 song EP they recorded (and this really rad cover art by Anais Michel). I’d say my favorite is a toss up between Where Were You Really and Blue Raincoat. So cool, that Fitzsousa.
How I wish I were your vintage blazer. You always looked good in something used.
I’ve had this song stuck in my head all day. I love Owen.
